Chapter 38
Tearen finished speaking to Enria and turned to look at Caldeon.
“And you will have to be my strong backing again this time. Moreover, this time, not just you and I, but everyone will bear the joint responsibility. You, Fyoren, the head of the guild, Rahar, and your woman, the Saintess, and Roseanne will all be punished together.”
He didn’t ask directly if Caldeon was prepared for this, but Caldeon could sense the question in his expression. Caldeon nodded as if it were obvious, and when Tearen looked at Roseanne and Rahar, they also nodded.
Finally, Tearen looked at Enria and said to her.
“Everyone who knows Her Ladyship will forget Her Ladyship. Is that alright with you?”
At the question, Enria blinked slowly.
From her perspective, this issue was not something to worry about in the first place.
This was because she had no memory of Enria’s time at the Grand Sanctuary or of those who were close to her.
If anything, it was beneficial to her if those who knew the original Enria before the possession could no longer remember her.
Despite this, her hesitation in answering was due to a vague guilt toward the real Enria before the possession.
She didn’t know what happened to the original Enria after she possessed this body, but if the memories of Enria as a Saintess were completely erased by this incident, it would be as good as the original Enria disappearing entirely.
Of course, Caldeon remembered the Enria from before the possession until she came to the Grand Duke’s castle, but she had no intention of ever telling Caldeon that she was a possessor.
She wanted him to think of the current, complete “her” as Hayden’s mother and Caldeon’s woman.
Driven by such selfishness, Enria intended not to tell anyone about the fact of her possession or that this world was the world within the book she had read.
Therefore, she couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of guilt that the original Enria would completely disappear due to her choice.
“Ah… I…”
“Once everything is over, we can reverse it.”
As Enria hesitated and trailed off, Caldeon hastily said to her.
“We will deal with everyone who threatens you and Hayden, and once the Magic Tower Lord and his subordinates are taken care of, I will certainly make our marriage, even as a Saintess, an obvious thing, no matter how long it takes. Just bear with it for a little while, Enria.”
It seemed Caldeon thought Enria was hesitant because she didn’t want everyone who knew her to forget her.
Since everyone seemed to think that was the case, Enria reluctantly nodded her head.
“Yes. It is.”
At Enria’s nod, Tearen got up and said.
“Then, let’s first revert your fake marriage and change Her Ladyship’s birth. Since it’s a non-existent family, we can use Her Ladyship’s last name as it is. Is that alright with Her Ladyship?”
Since a Saintess’s last name was arbitrarily given by the Grand Sanctuary, using that name as it was wouldn’t be a major issue. Enria also thought it better to use the last name she had been using than to attach a different last name after her first name now, so she readily nodded.
“Then I will contact the Grand Sanctuary and get Enria’s records. Since Enria is my person now, the Grand Sanctuary will gladly release the records.”
Tearen nodded once at Caldeon’s words. Roseanne jumped up and eagerly attached herself to Tearen’s side as he was about to leave.
“Are you leaving right now?”
“Yes. Now that it’s been brought up, I should hurry. Caldeon is a rather impatient fellow.”
“Ah, yes, that’s true. Still, it’s a pity. I wanted to have a leisurely cup of tea since it’s been a while. And I wanted to thank you for your trouble in releasing the wind spirit’s magic, too.”
Tearen smiled at Roseanne’s words and spoke of a future opportunity.
“Little sister, aren’t you a little too close to Tearen right now?”
When Rahar raised one eyebrow at Roseanne, she glared at him and moved even closer to Tearen.
Enria couldn’t help but smile at Roseanne’s attitude, which clearly showed her interest in Tearen.
They looked good standing side-by-side, and Roseanne’s flushed cheeks looked lovely, making Enria continue to smile.
Caldeon, who somehow misunderstood Enria’s smile as she looked at the two of them, grabbed her chin, turned her toward him, and began to twitch his eyebrows.
“What are you looking at and smiling?”
“Pardon? No…”
“Looking at another man in front of me, it seems last night’s kiss wasn’t enough.”
At those words, Rahar’s eyes widened almost comically, and Enria’s face flushed red like a beetroot. It was a good thing that Roseanne and Tearen had already left the room and were not present.
“W-what are you talking about?”
As she stammered, asking what her looking at another man had to do with last night’s kiss, Caldeon said to her with a serious face.
“Don’t let your eyes hold any other man. Only look at me, Enria. Only think of me and only smile at me.”
At his words, Rahar frowned as if he had heard something he shouldn’t have, and Enria glanced at him and said to Caldeon.
“R-really… When did I look at another man… I was looking at Rose, okay? Rose, smiling happily, just looked so lovely…”
“Roseanne was smiling happily?”
Rahar suddenly interrupted Enria and asked her with a puzzled expression.
“At Tearen?”
Realizing her mistake, Enria smiled awkwardly and shook her head.
“No, she wasn’t smiling happily at Lord Tearen, but…”
“Why do you remember that guy’s name, Enria?”
Before she could finish the sentence she’d blurted out to try and cover up, Caldeon asked, twitching his eyebrows.
Enria shook her head wildly and abruptly stood up.
“No, I only know his name because Rose called him… I-I think I should go because I’m worried about Hayden. So, you two continue your conversation…”
Caldeon and Rahar’s eyebrows subtly twitched as they watched Enria hurry out of the room.
“We really shouldn’t let that guy Tearen into the Grand Duke’s castle.” Caldeon muttered, staring at the spot where Enria had been, and Rahar also nodded once and said.
“Yes, it’s best to keep that womanizer away from Enria as much as possible.”
Rahar was also worried about his sister, Roseanne, getting too close to Tearen lately, and said that although it was for work, it would be a headache if his sister were to fall for Tearen by any chance.
“Well, isn’t he quite a good match for Lady Kaznaren?”
At Caldeon’s words, Rahar immediately raised his eyebrows high and said with dissatisfaction.
“Are you trying to pass off someone like Tearen to my sister?”
“Someone like Tearen? Even though he looks like that, he’s the head of the Gradei Marquisate.”
“So what? He has romances with all sorts of young ladies… No, they’re not exactly romances, but he flirts with almost every young lady in the Empire, doesn’t he?”
In truth, Tearen wasn’t exactly complicated with his relationships with women. Of course, the world wouldn’t leave a good-looking man alone, so there were always women around Tearen. He maintained moderately gentlemanly relationships, neither pushing away the women who came nor holding onto the women who left, but Tearen had never once been overly flirtatious or shown excessive affection to the women who revolved around him, so Rahar corrected his words because calling them “romances” was a misstatement.
“Well, it’s not like the women flock to him because he wants them to.”
When Caldeon said this calmly, Rahar still twitched his eyebrows with a displeased expression.
“That’s what bothers me even more. That women fall for him just by him smiling. That part always infuriated me when I was in the academy. You wouldn’t know how I feel, since you were as popular as him despite your nasty personality.”
In fact, Rahar was also quite popular with his good looks, but next to Tearen and Caldeon, he was no different from an ordinary man.
This was because Tearen, popular for his mysterious looks and brilliant mind, and Caldeon, popular despite his arrogant and bad personality, were insurmountable beings. It wasn’t exactly a matter of winning or losing, but as Rahar, who was friends with the two most popular men in the Empire, he found many things annoying.
“I don’t care about other women. All that matters is that Enria likes me.”
Especially this point.
Rahar glared at Caldeon with disapproval and clicked his tongue.
The fact that Caldeon was not married to his sister annoyed him more than the fact that Enria was Caldeon’s woman. He had thought that if Caldeon was another woman’s husband, there might be a slight possibility that Enria’s feelings would change.
‘Well. In the end, that hope was completely shattered, and all I learned was that Enria doesn’t see me as a man at all.’
Rahar sighed briefly, considering it his misfortune to be friends with two men with overly outstanding looks.
